- Eglinton Valley: This area was made famous when used for a setting in the movie Jurassic Park. The area was carved out thousands of years ago by glaciers and is covered in picturesque tussock grass.
- Knob’s Flat: Clean and tidy restrooms are available here.
- Mirror Lakes: This is a short, refreshing walk which gives a spectacular reflection of the surrounding mountains. As an afternoon breeze can spoil the experience we stop on the way in to Milford Sound.
- Pop’s viewpoint: From here you look over the Hollyford Valley and across to Lake Marion.
- Monkey Creek: Enjoy the mountain vistas in this pull-over stop and, usually, the company of a cheeky kea or two.
- Milford Sound cruise: Get up close and personal with Milford Sound on a leisurely Nature Cruise with Real Journeys. Experience the spray of a waterfall as you cruise close to sheer rock faces. Informative, participative and more relaxed, a Nature Cruise is the perfect way to experience Milford Sound to the fullest.
- Milford Sound viewpoint: A hidden viewpoint overlooking Milford Sound to enjoy after your cruise, before commencing your return journey.
- Chasm: Carved out by the glacial stream of hard granite. It is an easy ten minute walk to the amazing viewpoint. Spectacular rock formations sculpted by the force of water.
- Photo stop before Homer Tunnel: An Envy Experience special stop looking back towards Milford Sound.
- Homer Tunnel: The Homer Tunnel is 1.2km long and provides the only road access to Milford Sound. Started in the 1930s depression the Homer tunnel was undertaken initially by just five men with pickaxes. After many delays it was finally completed in the 1960s. It is one of the few unlined traffic tunnels in the southern hemisphere making it a fascinating sight. During construction, workers lived in tents at the eastern portal even during the depths of winter, surrounded by snow and avalanches. The tunnel used to have two-way traffic but it is now one-way and traffic lights manage the flow during the summer peak season.
- Fall’s Creek: Here, a spectacular river of water cascades under the road. We try to see the mysterious Maori kuia hiding behind the waterfall but she doesn’t always reveal herself.
- Lake Marion waterfall: An optional short walk offering magical views of a river tumbling amongst boulders through enthralling forest scenery.
- Hollyford Valley and Humboldt Falls: Our short side trip leads to the Lake Marion Walking Track and Gunn’s Camp. The Humboldt Falls are a worthy reward at the end of the road for those guests who have chosen to include walks in their experience.
- Gunn’s Camp: This small camp is a step back in time to the days of pack horses. The camp was formed in 1938 and today’s museum is an interesting tribute which is worth a visit.
- Lake Gunn Nature Walk: This optional stop is a self-guided 20 minute walk through pristine forest.
- Cascade Creek: A popular DOC campsite where we stop for a cuppa. There is a short nature walk you may choose to do up to Lake Gunn . Experience New Zealand birdsong and Fiordland bush up close.
